Reflection
Experience
Embarking on the Design Research Methods module this semester has
been an enlightening and rewarding journey. Despite initial trepidation due
to my previous struggles with reading and extensive research, I found the overall
experience to be highly positive and educational. The second project, which initially
seemed daunting, gradually became manageable and even enjoyable as I delved deeper
into it. Over time, I observed a significant improvement in both my reading speed and
comprehension, which was a gratifying development. One of the most notable aspects of this module has been the practical
application of research methods in everyday conversations. I frequently found myself
referencing my research findings during discussions with friends and family, an
integration of academic knowledge into daily life that felt both unexpected and satisfying.
This experience has underscored the relevance and impact of the skills and information I
have acquired, highlighting their practical utility beyond the classroom.
Observation
Over the course of the semester, my approach to research and reading
evolved
significantly. Initially, the volume and complexity of academic texts
were overwhelming. However, I soon developed a systematic and efficient approach,
utilizing tools like Google Scholar and Taylor's library system to access credible
information. Continuous learning and adaptation proved crucial. Feedback from
instructors and peers refined my research methods and improved my work quality. This
iterative process fostered a critical and analytical mindset, highlighting the
importance of adaptability in both academic and professional growth.
Findings
The mainfrom this module included specific research content and
broader personal development. On a content level, I gained a comprehensive
understanding of various research methodologies and their practical applications in design.
Learning about the differences between coercion and persuasion, for instance, provided
valuable insights into how strategies can influence behavior and decision-making.
Additionally, exploring societal norms and corporate behaviors deepened my knowledge and
sparked an interest in the ethical considerations of design.
